Yes for spark plugs

For the 4.6 I would use motorcraft plugs. As the 5.4 and 4.6 don't like aftermarket plugs for some reason.. For the 4.6 you want the Motorcraft Platinum I believe..

Motorcraft Platinum or Nickel work. That's what your truck will run best on and they last. The Triton engines were very picky with plugs.

I'd really like to know what the difference is between Motorcraft and any other decent brand that makes the OEM so special.

I was looking at and thinking I needed the SP-515 @ $10-13 each.

It runs great so I don't believe I need new plugs but it's nice to know a preventative maintenance maneuver won't kill me. I already have an 8 pack of coils to put on.

Yeah it was only the 3V engines like the 4.6L in the Crown Vic and Mustang GT (later the 2009/2010 F-150), Later years (2002 or 2003 Expedition and F-150) 5.4's, and same for the 6.8L V10. All the others had traditional spark plugs.

I heard the opposite. That the 2V don't strip/blow threads but 3V do.

I heard the opposite. That the 2V don't strip/blow threads but 3V do. my dad didn't even know about the ejecting of plugs. He just thought that they broke until me, my brother, and the mechanic got a 2v and 3v plug out.

Yeah I guess I didn't really research. Just bumped into conversations. Now that I google it I see you're right. yeah. It's from the heads only having 4 threads and the torquing not being tight enough.. I think it was at like 11 but they boosted it up to 28-32 pound feet

They do now. All the motors with 4 threads blew out plugs. They learned fast and made it 8.

The only 4V 5.4 that ever existed was in the Shelby when they used that motor. Everything else was 2 or 3V

He meant 4V per cylinder as usual. There's a 32 valve DOHC InTech in the 1999+ Navigators.
