Not necessarily for my f150, but I'm going to be installing a Hardwire Cord for my Escort Radar Detector. I'm planning on taping into the 12v outlet that turns off with the key. My question is, if the vehicle is turned off, should I still disconnect the battery before crimping the wire tap into the hot wire? I only ask because I'm at work and it's really slow, so I wanted to wire it up on my 10 min. Break..... rather then wait until I get home and do it in the heat....

Disconnect the battery unless you wish to either shock yourself or possibly fry you radar detector if you wire it wrong.

Awesome. Thank you. I'm still not nearly as educated in electrical wiring as I'd like to be, but it just takes practice......

You're welcome and you would probably be ok with leaving it connected but if something goes wrong you don't want a shock or something. It also de-activates the airbags in case you hit the wrong spot and deploy them accidentally.

I think the airbags are still hot for about 20 mins after disconnecting.
