Ok so some jacka** wouldn't move over and I had to floor it and it went up to 4,500-5,000 rpm but it wouldn't shift ( over drive in gauged ) I had to let up or it would have redlined is that a problem? Or normal?

Does it have issues shifting at any other times or only at WOT like that?

Does it have issues shifting at any other times or only at WOT like that?no problems at all really smooth actually. it just's when you put in to the floor then it won't shift with or without over drive in gauged

Were you on flat ground or an incline? I've hit about 5800 rpm in my truck in first gear because I punched it on an inclined freeway onramp. Didn't sound good but it shifted lol.

I buried my foot in the Escort once. Made it go from 68 mph to 70 mph in a split minute.

----------

Serious answer is the PCM and transmission assume that when you punch it like that, you want to go as fast as possible. That means hold onto the torque as much as possible. That means keep the RPM as high as possible for as long as possible. That means late shifts.

COMPLETELY normal unless you go past redline and it still won't shift.

There is no way that escort is stock. What did you do to make it a rocket?

I want to punch Honda boys in the face when they talk about V-Tech, most modern cars have the same s*** except with American vehicles like Ford we actually go fast when we hit the gas.

I had a Honda CRX. I liked it a lot. It wasn't V-Tech though as far as I know. Just super easy on gas.

----------

All joking aside, the Escort is actually pretty peppy for what it is. For it's 110 horses it has 125 ft-lb of torque. That's pretty damned good. The equivalent Honda is 106 horse and 103 ft-lb of torque. Curb weight is within 150lbs if I did the math correctly.

----------

And of course the Navigator will haul ass with its power, torque, and gearing. It's big and heavy but for the year has tons of oomph. 5.4, 4R100, and 3.73 makes a sexy ménage à trois.

But I thought v-tech was the best ever!?

I'll admit I owned a Honda one time...92 prelude. Worst mistake I ever made. Never got the thing to pass smog, and didn't have enough power to pull off your hat. My focus has moar ballz than that POS disaster. And my truck eats both of them.

Dude. I seriously miss my CRX. It wasn't fast but 50mpg highway is awesome. Especially when you're a kid making $7 an hour and gas is only 89 cents. I live in PA and would literally drive to North Carolina on a whim because it was cheap to do. $12 to go from PA to NC.

Man......I only make 10 an hour and gas is 4.35 a gallon!! But I hear Ya, the 80's CRX is one of the best hyper-mileage cars ever made. Beats any hybrid or clean diesel for a fraction of the cost. Not to mention if anything ever breaks on it you don't have to be an expert or have a thousand dollars of tools to fix it.

Indeed. Mine was a 1991 5 speed. The "HF" model which means it was geared for even better mileage than the regular ones.

It was only a two seater but I still got multiple chicks in it at a time.

Too bad they can't replicate it due to ridiculously stringent emissions regulations. Sure, modern cars pollute a little less nowadays but all that extra crap makes them heavier and less efficient, burning more fuel just to get a cleaner tailpipe.

Only times I've done it is when my foot is on the floor and I'm going uphill. But trust me it doesn't sound nice when it gets up there so it's good your truck doesn't.
