Hi everyone!! I just bought a 2014 Supercrew with a 302 V-8 and since the owners manual gives very little information about a break in I was curious about how other people broke in their engines

Don't use CC for the first 1k miles, don't do a lot of hard starts or stops, and change the oil after 1k

I did 2 or 3 hard starts when I was taking people for rides in it a couple data after I brought it home, do you think doing so will a effect the break in at all?

----------

Dealer said not to change the oil until there is 5000 miles on it because the factory puts synthetic oil in it and if you change it any earlier than 5000 you lose it's effectiveness

We all know that most people have different opinions on proper engine break in procedure, some say to "drive it like you stole it" or the rings will not seat into their proper positions causing gauging, oil compsution and premature wear and some say to baby it and it everything will slowly fall into position... I chose the middle route...,baby it at for a few days then beat on it for a few days hopefully this will work...

Do you think I compromised the break in by doing a few full throttle starts?

Not at all. The most common advice I've heard from several Ford reps is to drive it consistently throughout the RPM range. From soft starts to red lines every once in a while.

I looked into this when I bought too. There are so many opinions. I concluded that they don't use "break-in" oil and that you can drive 5000 miles before the first change. I decided to not push it and not baby it. My belief is that it probably wouldn't make any difference. With all that I have 30k miles, use 100% synthetic and change at 10k. My driving is light and mostly highway. I don't add any between changes, but I check the oil often. It is so clean still.

Remember this: If you disagree it is only because you don't know what you are talking about ; )

If it mattered, they'd make you sit through an instructional seminar and then sign a waiver.

I mostly hear "forget about it." I've got 700 miles on the new one and will change to synthetic at 1000

I treat mine good from day 1, but i did take it on the highway for a good opening up on the test drive once i agreed to buy. Only ever test drive if buying.

----------

Always hear and say about rentals. They get beat hard, run for 30,000 miles then sell. Never heard of any issues and a few people i know have bought them.

Think about this: People getting a rental are mostly on vacation or temporary and you need to be older too. That might be a better group overall to buy from????

I buy my F-150s from little old ladies who only drove the truck to preachin' on Sundays and Wednesday Bible study. And if there's no knitted blanket on the seat, the deal's off.
