My 2004 f150 5.4L sounds like a diesel when its idling. Is this for sure the cam phasers? Motor sounds healthy when its in route, but like i said, sounds like a diesel when it idles.

I think it's normal but not sure

Can be a phaser issue. Try disconnecting the phaser and see if the noise goes away. If it does. Check base oil pressure at hot idle (normal
Operating temp)

Its not normal... The diesel sound would come from the plugs firing at the wrong time ( most likely too soon). Plus it just started doing it about a month or two ago.

Ok my mom's boss has a 06 and it sounded like that all the time one of the plugs weren't firing and it took forever for the motor to get to heat.

Are you sure it isn't the injectors? Mine are pretty loud ticking noise. Can you upload a video?

It literally sounds like a diesel like it's echoing I think the injectors got changed and some other stuff but I forget
