I put new rims and tires on my truck (2011 EB) and my mpg went from 17.9 to 13.3. Part of the issue is that my wife drives it daily to work and she likes the feel of the turbos 😩 lol... But is there any easy cheaper mods I can do to help my MPG besides putting the "My Key" feature to work and possibly risking a divorce lol..... I won't put the stock rims on either lol ...

What ply r your tires? 10's. 6's? Stock tire can weigh about 42-48lbs. A 10ply tire is almost 100 lbs. that's alot to turn. Keep that in mind.

Did your tire size increase over stock size?

----------

As for mods, not cheap, but if she drives more highway miles then get a tonneau cover, that should give you a little extra MPG's. Not significant but you will notice the difference. It'll at least probably get you to 14mpg. Also keep your tires properly inflated, get rid of excess weight, and make your wife pay for gas so she stops gunning it everywhere lol.

You aren't getting as bad of mileage as you think then. Since your tires are now bigger, and thus more distance is covered by 1 revolution of the tires, you are actually going farther compared to 1 revolution of stock size tires. It's throwing off your speedometer by a few mph and in turn your odometer as well. So your MPG's went down, but probably not as drastic as appears now. You'll have to adjust your truck's computer by getting it programmed/tuned to make the tire size adjustment, with a programmer or tune, you'll also gain some HP, torque, and mpg. Plus do all the other stuff I listed. And try and convince mrs. Lead foot to drive economically lol.

Yes I went from a 260/65/18 to a 275/65/20.

Your odo is off by about 5%. Your new tires are overall 1.85" wider in diameter than the older ones. At 60 mph true, your speedo will read ~55.6mph. After a registered 10,000 miles, you would have only traveled 9,263 miles.

Say you travel 500 miles and it takes 25 gallons to do so. Multiply distance traveled (500) by the percentage off (5%). Add the difference (25). So in reality you traveled 525 miles. Divided by 25 gallons, you have net calculated mileage of 21mpg versus the 20 you think you're getting.

A safe guess is add ~1mpg to what you think you are getting, that is what you are actually getting. So you're getting 14.3, which could rise to 15 if you are careful. Losing 2mpg for bigger tires isnt that bad, if you stay out of boost.

I didn't want to change the Ford engine performance program. I did change tires and the programmer I got was off ebay for $100 used, from Hypertech.

----------

I thought of something else and I think we all tend to forget. Some goofy hyper-milers drove an f150 for a long way (cross-country) and got 33 mpg with the 3.7l going 45mph. I think all three motors would get that kind of mileage with hypermiling. The point is that the type of driving and driving style make a huge difference. Lead foot wives are always the cool ones too.
