Alright guys. Considering I'm at work from 4 am-5 PM every day and I drive all the time I've been putting crazy mileage on my F150. Don't wanna get rid of my ford for like a honda car or anything but the gas mileage is killing me.
Any suggestions on a good gas car that looks good.
From what I've been seeing all the 40 mpg + cars are as ugly as a dart or Prius. Haha.

Staying with a ford the focus is 40+ on mpg! Mustang gets 305hp while getting 30+ mpg!

The focus or the fiesta. The new Ford C-Max doesn't look too shabby either.

TDI Jetta, 50mpg and a ton of torque. Focus is a good second with up to 40mpg. If you wanna go cheap, a 90s Civic will get about 35mpg. You can mod them for next to nothing. I hear a grand will get you a couple hundred horsepower.

maybe i'm wrong or misunderstanding, but wouldn't the cost of another car (repairs, initial cost and insurance) pretty much cancel out what you would be saving on gas?

F-150= 15,000 miles (year) / 15 mpg = 1000 gallons * $3.50 = ~$3,500.00 a year
Civic = 15,000 miles (year) / 40 mpg = 375 gallons * $3.50 = $1,312.00 a year

$3,500-$1,312 = $2,188 savings. Considering you can get a decent car for less than a grand, that leaves you with ~1,000 to play with. Insurance would be about $500 for a year, tops. So in the end, you pocket $600, and instead of replacing $150 tires on your truck, you replace $50 tires on the car, etc etc.

$500 for insurance? i guess ontario is a little different lol. my buddy pays 675 a month for his '07 civic. im sure older ones and less idiotic drivers are cheaper but i havent heard of insurance for $500 a year. and if that f150 is still going to be driven weekends then you also have to keep that insured. but thats just my opinion, i wouldnt make a dollar without my truck anyhow

But you can beat a rice burner...with a tortoise lol.
I'd get a Focus/Fiesta/C-Max over any foreign car any day. I'll pay more to drive "American" (notice the quotes, I know they're not pure American).

Down here, insurance is based off a few main vairables- age of the driver, driver history, and type of vehicle along with the age of vehicle. Secondly is the type of policy. Bare bone basics such as PIP and the like is cheap. Add collision, rental coverage, etc and it goes up.

IE: Under 23, you've got automatically high insurance. Men are more expensive than woman. More cylinders = more money. Type of car depends too. A sedan will cost less than a convertible and a convertible costs less than a sports car.

So if you are a 21 year old with a 2008 Mustang GT convertible, expect maybe $250-400 a month. a 25 year old female driving a 1995 Civic will pay about $50-100 a month. (These are rough estimates.) I pay every 6 months and my 1998 F-150, V6, with my 22 year old self an no driving history I pay $350 every 6 months for a a total of $700 a year. That is PIP, collision, EVERYTHING.

Joe, I know the feeling. I'm an American guy through and through. However, you have to honestly admit that Honda's make some damned reliable cars. They make cars, motorcycles, boats, airplanes, etc. They know how to do it. I've seen an old junkyard Civic have the oil drained and then filled with WATER and run it at full throttle. It took ~11 mins for it to lock up. I was amazed.

I wouldn't drive one as my primary choice, but they are stupid cheap on gas and insurance, not to mention pickup cost is low as well. My buddy has one and recently knocked a hole in the block . He spent $400 for a new long block and rebuilt it in a day. Try doing that with an F-150. I just spent $400 on suspension components alone for my F-150. Hondas you can rebuild bumper to bumper for maybe 2 grand, tops for a brand-new car.

My tires are 1,000$ I get 12 MPG and drive over 100 miles a day. Lol

They have had 2 engines in the top ten for 20 years or better. You r correct. And I don't dispute. Just can't do it. I just can't. Lol. I even try to do all my shopping. American. Now that is hard.
On another note. We emptied all fluids from my buddies 84 Chevy cavalier beat it through the woods. Blew the next day. Crazy rod knock. Lol. But it was def fun. Lol. I might get a cmax. Kickin it around that's fer sure. Milage kills me. My insurance is nothin 3000 a year for 3 vehicles Not to bad. But I just can't drive an import.

If i do get honda car then it will have to be fully loaded with leather and navi etc etc. not gonna settle for an import I can't enjoy more than My ford

----------

Shoot I wish i paid 1 grand per vehicle a year because I'm 18 and driving a truck in Louisiana my insurance is 268 and I haven't had any tickets. Lol

----------

Also though if i buy a nice car and pay it off I can always keep that for work and buy joes FX4... Haha

----------

and don't get me wrong I love my F150 and i love sitting up high and knowing that if I hit anything I won't even feel it. But going to a rice burner will allow me to triple up on my money. And probably be able to buy a 97-03 F150 for my personal use lol

When I wrecked my truck, I got a hyandai (however you spell it) for a rental, it was nice, had full leather, heated cooled seats, sunroof blah blah blah, and got 39 mpg if I drove like a granny and about 31 if I floored it all the time, the price is low for brand new and the warranty can't be beat, but personally I've driven a brand new focus and it kinda sucked compared to it, but me being 6'4'' and 275#s, I will prob never own a car, didn't feel right, didn't look right with me in it either, if I get something for gas Milage it'll be a 2wheel drive ranger extended cab with a fourbanger

another option for a gas saver is a ranger. i had a '91 4.0L that i drove really hard and still got good mileage with. theyre pretty cheap to buy and can still do some hauling
