My truck has a rough idle, could a clogged fuel filter be causing this?

Depends, when was the last time it was changed? Could be a whole list of other things too. Spark plugs need changed, throttle body needs cleaned, injector is fouled up.

That's what I was also thinking, I had them changed and they put autolites in, three have been replaced with motorcrats after misfiring so think I need to do the rest

Listen. I've said this before and ill day it again. Your truck is designed to run on motorcraft. U will get the best out of your truck with ford parts. Change em all. Even the ones u just did. Check your gap and put a fresh set in. I'm sure u will feel the difference

Yeah I know, to bad I wouldn't of downloaded this app prior to paying someone to change them....and what would you recommend torquing them down to? And I've been told by some to and some not to, to use high heat anti seize....also correct me if I'm wrong but aren't these pre gapped

They r Pre gapped. But. U don't know for sure unless ya check em. Little dab of anti seize won't hurt. Little dab. Little goes a long way. As for trq spec u can check your owners manual. I always go a 1/4 turn past snug. Kinda like u would do with an oil filter. I've never had a prob.

They're supposed to be like .052" and can't be adjusted, I think thats what the owners manual said. Confirm it though lol. And torqued down to 28ft-lbs I believe, check the how to thread on changing plugs. In all honesty the 5.4 is a great engine but I'm glad I have the 4.6. The 5.4 is like a stuck-up b**** of a girlfriend, too needy and specific but puts out well so you put up with her lol. The 4.6, although with less power, has more variation room.

strangely it has been consistently getting better since i changed the plugs. changed plugs in the winter and it started out with about 11.5 now is averaging 17.8 with a high of 18.3

Ha. Never even looked at the pic of your plug. My bad. But yes. They can be ever so slightly adjusted. But fer the most part they come suffice

Well s***, in that case I need to change mine. I've had a slight rough idle since I bought my truck almost 2 years ago, and my mpg is constantly around 12.5mpg. Is that city or highway mileage? Or combined?

It just popped into my head lol.

That's combined with a lot of cruising 90km/h and no more than a cord of firewood in the back

That's pretty good, I'm sure I'd see at least a 1-2mpg increase even though I drive a lot more city than highway miles.

Ryan not sure with your gears but my 5.4 is getting 19-20 on hwy. I also put the E-3 plugs in and am amazed at what the did! Just need to put an exhaust system on to let it breath a little more!

I have the 3.55 rear end. I mean I drive a lot more city than highway miles, and here in crowded SoCal., lights take forever. I'm not expecting great increases, but to be honest I can't keep getting 12.5mpg, it costs too much lol. That's why I'm doing everything I can to get the most mpg. Already modified my intake and added a drop in filter, have an exhaust system, got a programmer, replaced my fuel filter, cleaned my throttle body, run Lucas fuel treatment with every tank, and have even started driving more efficiently and with a lighter foot. Spark plugs are my last hope, well that and my oil change due in another 1,000 miles or so, at which time I'll be adding in ZMax Engine treatment with it.

will new/better coils and wires make a noticeable difference in how the motor runs?
