I have a 97 f150 5.4 when I got the truck the motor was almost shot, I kept driving it and it had a rod start knocking and started running horrible like a dead cylinder and a few miles later through the the rod. Well here's the problem, I put another 5.4 in it and the truck is running just like it did before the rod through in the old motor. New plugs, coils checked out good alone with injectors. Idk what else to do with it.

Do u have spark? Silly question I know but sometimes just overlooked Also. What your oil look like. Normal? Burnt? How many miles? Was it a used motor?

Is she knockin good? Warranty with the motor ?

----------

I had a similar prob. I kept poppin coils on cyl 4. Turned out to b my head gasket. Moister in the cylinder. And we all know that moister doesn't combust. So I did a swap with a ford crate and some goodies and she's a beast. But. Does that sound like it could b? Only sayin cause it happined to me

Well. Lets start there. Keep the truck running. Disconnect one by one til the engine doesn't have a response. Then you'll know that's where your problem starts
