I have a 2013 Limited with the EB and 3.73 gears. I am only averaging 13-14 with it. I understand that driving habits come into play, so I set the cruise to 58mph on a highway trip and got a whopping 16.8 with it. Not too bad but no where near the 21 the window sticker states. Did anyone notice mileage dropping due to the new intake? Perhaps it's the 3.73s? Or maybe it's not broken in? Is there a certain # of miles before economy rises??? Any help ?

Yes, the engine runs in a constant open loop for the first 3-5,000 miles to help break in the engine. 3.73s are not helping. Your mileage may go up a bit, but you probably won't break 20

Took this pic earlier today and now it's at 18.9. I was averaging 19.5 last summer so I'm about there again.. This isn't my everyday driver tho. I am currently working on my car that's why I drove my truck today.

Thanks! Part of me wanted to get the Platinum with the 6.2, however everyone talked me into this one. I have been kicking myself after seeing the mileage. It has great power however, and I know the 3.5 to be durable. Time will tell. I would be happy seeing 18 mpg. Nothing that unattainable. My '73 does that with a carbed 351... Granted smaller gears.

If you're wanting more mileage I suggest picking up a tuner. And it's all in how fast you drive. I could get 27-29 in my old EB when I kept it at 55. Most of my driving was city and I still averaged 17 for the 13,xxx I had it.

I just got my 2013 XTR screw. I'm on my second tank of gas. So far I'm getting about 18.5 city and 23 to 24 hwy. This is based on imperial gallons vs the US gallon which is a little bigger. So that would account for the higher numbers. I traded in an 04 superduty with a 6.0 diesel so I'm quite happy with the power and mileage.

You're still in the break-in stage. After awhile your mileage should improve about 1-2mpg's.

6,300 is past this so called break in period.

Not to be negative, but my mileage actually worsened after I broke 10,000 on my '11. That was probably the biggest part of why I traded it in.

----------

Hopefully things get better for you squirrel, but honestly speaking the first 5,000 miles are where I got the best mileage out of the 13,000 I had on my old EB

Last year I would average around 19.5mpg a day driving back and forth to work now my ecoboost has about 11,500miles on it and I'm averaging between 20-21 mpg a day driving back and forth to work so I got a slight increase when I hit 11k miles

That's awesome.

It's crazy how the" same" motor can have different results through its life.

Got some good luck, mine went from 18 to 14, I wanna clean the intake and do another fuel filter but I was a little bummed, still got 10 mpg hauling a jeep down through south east Ohio, which has a lot of hills

Look closer. Those #'s are only over a 5 min span. Best I ever did on a 20 mile trip in my EB was 28.9. Which is great, but also a lot downhill and with the wind pushing me.

There really isn't much of a "break in period" for newer vehicles. The last 2 I had I played nice for the first 1000mi then let her rip. I've read of people taking their new car or truck to the track the nite after they buy it and hammer down. Then those same people have upwards of 100,000 without a single issue to speak of.

I have to concur with Danny. I drove my mustang from the factory and while on the road trip I hit 3 race tracks. Including the local track witch is 3 miles away. My truck? I put a svt crate motor with all there trimmins and they said to put a 1000 miles on it before you open her up. Now nothing in all my paper work gave a written explanation on how to break in the motor. But I did an oil change at 500 miles and 1000 miles. And every 3000 afterwards. The boys from ford were happy. Break ins? If u wanna keep it forever. Be gentle to a 1000. After that she's like a puppy. Run her. Don't b skerrrd lol

Haha! I've been easy on mine the whole time minus a couple occasions where I just couldn't help it anymore! Only got 500 more miles to go though till I break a thousand. Being a college student, its hard to wait that long to let that 5.0 drink when your truck sits for a week or two at the time non stop.

----------

@baldyman. I wouldn't be surprised if it did. The only driving I've really done so far is in and around athens, Georgia and back and forth to Augusta which is only an hour and a half drive. I think after ten thousand or so I may be able to get a couple more mpg on the highway and around town hopefully.

If you want loud, Flowmaster. If you just want a nicer tone then stock I recommend Magnaflow, Borla, or Gibson. Or if you're willing to spend a lot, a Banks system.

I'm starting to get to the point where I'm losing confidence in this engine. 3 times it's given me trouble. I don't know what to do about it, I don't know who to talk to. 2 times I've been crossing highways when it loses its power! If the oncoming traffic hadn't been as far away as they have been so far I might not be here right now. Love the truck, love the power when its there, but I cant have it spontaneously cutting out and doing this idle mode garbage where it just rolls at 20km/h. This is a serious issue that keeps coming up, and I'm done recommending the ecoboost to anyone.

To be honest I think it's just the 3.5L V6 in general, not just the Ecoboost. My mom has just the plain 3.5L in her 2010 Edge and about a year ago she had the same problem. Check engine light would come on and it'd go into limp mode and go like 15mph. Took it to the dealership as it was still under warranty and they couldn't find anything wrong. Left and it immediately happened again, and same thing, and then it happened a third time after leaving again. Techs said they couldn't find anything wrong which is bs since it threw a code obviously with the CEL, but that was just Huntington Beach Ford being cheap and not wanting to fix things under warranty, why we never go there anymore. Back to the point however, the Ecoboost is a great engine with the power they were able to get out of it, however that power comes at a price. Two turbos, and turbos need pretty exact conditions to run properly. And plus the 3.5L just seems to be a problem engine by itself lol. No offense to you, but that's why I'd just get the 5.0, or if you really need the towing capacity the 6.2. Good old V8 power and no technology to f*** up.

I needed a daily driver with the power on the weekend. So it's been perfect, but I can't have it be unreliable like this.

You're still under warranty aren't you? Blow the motor and make Ford replace it lol. Jk of course. But yeah I get you man, I'd take it in and see if the techs (God-forbid if they actually do) can figure out what's going on or have a fix.

You need to get In touch with someone from ford corporate and work your way up and just keep bitching and threaten to get your local news involved in how lazy your local dealer is. Basically just be a giant dick ... That's what it takes now and days to get **** done ...
