Have a choice of picking a 02 duramax Or a 01 powerstroke, which one to pick

I would go with the obvious choice of the power stoke unless its a 6.0 or 6.4 L they've had some issues. 6.4L I'm not completely for sure on but I know the 6.0L are always blowing head gaskets.

I agree, Powerstroke has had some problems, but Duramx is terrible. Stick to the Ford.

The 6.0 do need work need a egr and dpf delete throw a tuner on it and they pretty good. My friend has a 6.4 and did both deletes and a H&S tuner and exhaust and it has 560 at the rear wheels

I know I love the powerstroke it's a 7.3 but I love the duramax with a Allison tranny but I came across a 99 cummins so I'll probly go with the cummins

While I have to say Cummins makes a great engine, Dodge makes terrible vehicles, but if it's a fixer-er-upper then go for it.

I'd rather be strokin than cummin. The current generation of the duramax/Allison combo is pretty bad ass. And cummins is a engine that ford gave up and still has quite some say in that engine. But cummins told dodge. If u don't make ur tranny and the better part of ur truck better. We r out. Now. The 7.3 is a monster of power. Superduty&. Excursion were the title holders fer a while. If its in good condition u should consider it. ^^^^^^^^^^^ bullit proof runs if power and tons of parts. 6.0. Luckily I never had a prob but that truck was stolen and totaled Boooo right? Still bitter about that. Lol. 6.4. Was a international Hail Mary to save the contract. Ford is finally back to building there own motors bout damn time too. So the moral of this ramble is. Dude really? Buy the Ford But some of us may make fun of u if u don't . Lol. Jk

Ya cummins is it's own brand but contracted to cummins I think ford owns like 25% I think but I'ma buy the cummins it has the lowest miles put of them and I'ma do the transfer kit and put a Allison tranny in it but I've always like the 5.9l cummins

I even would take a 6.Slow over a Duramax, but passing up a 7.3L? You are crazy.

^^^Well you can when the rest of his truck breaks down, lol. And while the 7.3L was awesome and all, I think it lacked power for how big it was, especially compared to the 6.0L and 6.4L and now-a-days with the 6.7L, yes I know engine tech and power have improved greatly. (I'm a Powerstroke and Ford guy all the way though, don't get me wrong.)

I need a motor with torque and cummins pushes more torque cuz it's a straight six with is always better but that duramax is loud and it'll roll some coal though lol

RhinoZ24

It can be as loud as it wants, doesn't mean its powerful, just like all the rice-rockets here in California, just piece of s*** 4-cyl imports that aren't fast or anything just really loud and annoying.

Ya I bought the cummins today it's straight piped but it's not too loud unless u get the rpms up

Cummins are okay, the transmissions wont last anywhere near as long as it will though. Our dept has a 6.Slow in a 2003 F-350 Ambulance with 338,000 original miles on the engine. I love that truck.
