I just got back from visiting my grandparents and I went to the store for my mom. When I went to crank my truck up it started and then it sounded like it was gonna shut off. I was looking at my gauges and it looked like every time the truck idled down my volts on the battery gauge went down. Also I went to get some new tires and when the guy put my truck down off the lift, it took him 3 times to crank it and drive out from under the lift. The 3rd time he started it, he gave it a little gas to keep it from shutting off. Any ideas of what this could be?

If your voltage gauge is dropping, it sounds like your alternator isn't charging up the battery. That would cause your engine to die while idling.

After I get it to start and start driving the gauge levels off as it does normally? Could it be the starter?

The starter is unrelated. After your engine is running it plays no part. If your truck starts fine, your starter is fine.

At first I was thinking it could be either something in my tank, or maybe some bad gas. Not sure, but it was running fine a couple weeks ago. I went to visit some family and while I was gone my dad drove the truck.

Have your battery load tested to see if its bad could have a bad cell?
